Personnelplus To Offer Summer Youth Employement And Traning Program Again
PersonnelPlus, in partnership with Washington County Pathway’s Initiative and Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission, will once again be conducting a Summer Youth Employment and Training Program. The program offers area youth who have some type of disability the opportunity to learn a variety of job skills through work and classroom experiences.
There will be two session again this year. The first session will run June 9, 2010 through July 9, 2010 and the second session, July 12, 2010 through August 13, 2010. Mondays will be class time where youth will discuss various work related issues, learn what employers look for in workers and how to be an efficient and effective employee. Tuesdays through Thursdays the youth will work at an actual work site. Last year, job sites included an office environment, a retail environment, community park and a school. Each job site will have three to five students and a Job Trainer.
Sampling Coordinator Lavonna Laughlin reported there have already been requests made by two of the sites used last year to be included as sites again this year. Lavonna is currently working on securing other sites and hopes to have all sites secured by March 9, 2010.
Transition Coordinator Chris Stewart has met with teachers and students and given presentations at all area high schools and the response has been fantastic! According to Chris, “There is a lot of interest in the program from the students.”
Applications are currently being accepted and the deadline is April 9, 2010. PersonnelPlus is looking to hire around 25 youth. Each youth will be paid $7.30 per hour for 16 hours a week. Orientation will be required for all youth who will be working the program.
